An ongoing visual notebook
What do you see when you stop long enough to look twice?
Journeyman is a visual notebook. Most of it is photographs made in the hours when the light is about to change: fog settling over a harbour, a red window in the snow, the sea going quiet at the end of the day.
Lately the notebook has grown new pages. With AI I make images of places no camera can reach: astronauts lost in mushroom forests, airships over ruined cities, faces made of light. They begin where the photographs stop, with the same eye for mood and light. And with a 3D printer, some of the ideas become things you can hold.
The name comes from the old craft tradition, the journeyman who travels from place to place and learns by doing. There is no grand expedition here. Just the habit of paying attention, of trying new tools, and of coming back to look again.

About
Thorbjørn Haarup Laursen
Graphic designer and UX specialist, based in Aarhus. For more than 25 years I have worked with brands, identities, websites and apps, first as art director at Kanitech, then in my own studios: Ersgard & Laursen, Creative Geist and Aarhus Reklamebureau. The motto has stayed the same the whole way: think, think again, design.
Along the way I have worked for clients such as Heineken, Tetra Pak, Dynaudio, Dali, Trek Bicycles, the National Museum of Denmark, Spot Festival and The Animation Workshop.
Photography has run alongside the design work since 2013, first on Instagram, now here, and lately also images made with AI and objects from a 3D printer. Journeyman is where it all settles down: fewer pictures, shown larger, with room to breathe.
